"Cemetery Quilt"
quilt
book

Josie doesn't want to go to a funeral - especially when it's a funeral for her grandfather. But go she does, even after finding out about the family cemetery quilt. Handed down to Josie's grandmother, the quilt has fabric coffins that are added to the "cemetery" in the center when family members die. At first Josie is upset by the idea, but gradually she comes to feel a bit of comfort in the sense of family and belonging it signifies. Cemetery Quilt speaks quietly to the universal fear of loss and separation with an affirmation of the continuity and progression that are also a part of life.
